Lyn Carlson

When Lyn was a toddler, her family moved from Calgary to a property near Wiarton, returning to her mother’s roots on the Bruce Peninsula. At school she was involved in many clubs, and served as Yearbook Editor. Outside school Lyn was involved in Air Cadets and achieved the rank of Flight Sergeant. Lyn was an Ontario Scholar and received her School Letter, among other Honours, including for English Studies. After high school, Lyn began working for an international company in Toronto where she enjoyed a near view of the CN Tower from her desk. Over the years she gained broad perspective from a variety of administrative jobs – from big business and small enterprise to federal and municipal government to non-profit agencies.

From early on, Lyn enjoyed writing poetry, finding it an instinctive means to express her thoughts and feelings.

One of her earliest poems was written in Grade 7 for Remembrance Day which, winning provincial and national prizes, was published in the Legion Magazine. With her father having been seriously wounded in WWII while riding Motorcycle Dispatch in Holland, she keenly felt the importance of Remembrance, and was a member of both the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion for many years.

After some 20 years away working in Toronto and then Niagara, Lyn returned to this area and has resided in Owen Sound for over 25 years with her husband Robert. (Please note – anything negative about relationship    you may notice in her poetry is about the ex-husband!)

When she was younger, Lyn did a lot of travelling and feels privileged to have seen many parts of Canada, literally from sea to sea to sea. Time spent on Baffin Island was especially memorable. Nowadays she enjoys reading, music, trivia, playing Scrabble and card games and, along with Rob, watching the antics of their big old cat Tigger and cute little dog Dolly.
