Description
This poetry collection, part of a fundraiser for My Friend’s House, a non-profit agency offering support for abused women and children living in the Georgian Triangle, is a gathering that explores the reality of gender-based violence. While some of the poems might disturb, all inspire, and reflect on this difficult subject with imagination and insight. The poets appearing here are some of the finest in Canada (including Catherine Graham, Ronna Bloom, Elana Wolff, Barry Dempster, Tanis MacDonald, Ricardo Sternberg, Steve Noyes, Kim Fahner, Frances Boyle) as well as some significant new voices, and each responded with generosity when asked to contribute. his book has a simple though challenging goal – to raise awareness about the prevalence of gender-based violence, but also to lend some comfort and a sense of community to those who, directly or indirectly, are affected, with the idea that telling the truth about a widespread problem is the first step toward solving it. Proceeds from the sales of Shelter in Place will be donated to My Friend’s House.
